Towers, operating as Bonimart in Quebec, was a Canadian discount department store chain owned by the Oshawa Group, a now-defunct grocery retailer and distributor. Towers Marts began as a New York-based chain; the first Canadian store was opened in 1960 in Toronto (at the corner of Lawrence Ave. East and Midland Ave.) After the chain went bankrupt in 1963, a group of Towers concessionaires, incorporated as Allied Towers Merchants Ltd., purchased the 13 Canadian stores and began operating as a Canada-only chain. Each selling department within a Towers store was operated as a licensed concession. Some Towers/Bonimart stores offered services such as restaurants (Red Grille or Villager Restaurant), photo labs, and pharmacies within the store. Some stores were also paired with an IGA or Food C...

The fifth last day of the Zellers store (#91) in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. This is the first Zellers to close in the HRM. The Greenwood location (store #303) is also currently in it's final days. We overheard an employee say that Target sold the lease for this store to Wal-Mart. This location was formerly a Towers. Goodbye, Zellers, you will be missed! :( Zeddy! Picture slideshow at the end.
The first snowfall of winter 2009. 8.30am, November 6th. Through Cole Harbour and Dartmouth. Sped up x4. It's hard to tell, but the woman in the car in front of me is doing her makeup for the entire length that I was behind her on Caldwell Road - that's why she's wandering all over the right side of the street and breaking suddenly. What better time to do your makeup than driving on a collector during a snowstorm (when few people have their winter ties installed) during morning rushour while passing an elementary school? Sheesh...

Cole Harbour's finest were working on one timers earlier today in Bedford, NS. Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon, great friends off the ice get a little extra shooting in at end of the practice. Sid serves 'em up and Nate fires away. Crosby and MacKinnon are members of a group of NHLers who skate together in Halifax in the summer. More videos of the NHLers in the weeks ahead.
HOUSE OF FLUTES
Innocence, a sensless death,
Dying angel on my nest.
The purest blood touches my mouth,
Rest the peace I'll break apart tonight.
In that trail left behind,
I'll hunt all trought the night.
They will feel what burns inside
A man who's filled with hate in heart.
But I can't, I'm just alone,
This war is my last one.
I must find the home they said,
To hear the song of braves.
There's no honor or compassion,
In a battle for revenge.
There's so many in my way,
Moanga will lead me again.
A hundred days of war,
Now I have won, it's done.
Iara is calling me to meet her in the sunset.
When all the faith on me,
Seems to fall on ground.
I stand tall now I've found
The House of Flutes.
The love is lost between
Victory and pain.
I whisper the last song,
